​The District of Columbia Occupational Therapy Association is a state affiliate of the national professional association, the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). The DCOTA is committed to its mission to act as an advocate for occupational therapy services in order to support the health of the public in Washington, DC; to improve and advance the education and qualifications for occupational therapy; maintain standards of performance through continuing education; foster research and study in occupational therapy and; engage in activities that further the dissemination of knowledge of occupational therapy.

OT SPOTLIGHT

Frank Gainer is the Director of Conferences at the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) in Bethesda, Maryland. He has been an occupational therapy practitioner for thirty-eight years. He served for 14 years in the US Army with clinical assignments in West Germany, Washington, DC and the Republic of Panama. For 8.5 years he was the Director of Rehabilitation Services for a large health care system in Washington, D.C. prior to joining AOTA in 2001. He retired from the United States Army Reserves, as a Lieutenant Colonel, in 2003 after serving for 24 years.He is an adjunct instructor at Howard University, the Chairperson of the District of Columbia Board of Occupational Therapy, a long-time surveyor for CARF-the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission, and a member of ASAE's CAE Exam Item Writing Committee. He has done numerous presentations at both international and national conferences and has been published extensively.
